Introduction to Stroke Styles

Who Can Use This Feature

✔︎ Type-designer variant users can access the brush styles.

Letterer variant users have to upgrade to Type Designer.

Why This Feature Matters

Brush styles are here to speed up your work with brushes across the whole font. You can manage the parameters of multiple brush-points across multiple glyphs and multiple masters.

Create A New Brush Style

To create the first brush style:

  1. Select a brush-point or multiple brush-points
  2. On the UI panel click create
  3. Write a name
  4. Confirm the new brush style by clicking on the check symbol, or press the key Enter

When a new brush style is created you'll see its name in the list of other brush styles.

Assign A Brush Style

You can assign any brush style to any brush-point in your font across all glyphs (layers) and masters.

To assign a brush style to a brush-point:

  1. Select a brush-point or multiple brush-points
  2. On the brush style list, click on a brush style you want to Assign

In a case, the brush style has different parameters than the current brush-point you'll immediately notice the change.

Modify A Brush Style

You can modify the parameters of a brush style anytime. By modifying the parameter, you'll change the parameters of all brush-point across the whole font.

To modify a brush style:

  1. Select a brush-node
  2. Edit the parameters of the brush-point either by manipulation on canvas or on the UI panel.
  3. Go to the brush styles list and find the brush style assigned to the modified brush-point.
  4. On the assigned brush style, click on the symbol update.
  5. After the click, you'll see the changes immediately across the whole font.

Rename Brush Style

You can change the brush style name.

  1. Go to the brush styles list and find the brush style you want to rename.
  2. On the brush, style click on the three dots symbol.
  3. After the click, the input field will appear.
  4. Write a new name.
  5. Click on the checkmark or press enter to submit the new name.

Reset Brush-Point Parameters To Brush Style

In the case when you have changed brush-point parameters and want to revert the parameters back to the assigned brush style parameters:

  1. Select a brush-point with different parameters
  2. Go to the brush styles UI pane
  3. Click on the Reset

You'll see the changes immediately after the click.

Detach Brush-Point Parameters From Brush Style

In case you want to un-assign brush-point from the brush style

  1. Select a brush-point with different parameters
  2. Go to the brush styles UI pane
  3. Click on the Detach
  4. Immediately after the click, you'll see no more the checkmark signifying the assigned brush style.

Now any changes of brush style will not affect the selected brush-point.
